Athletics Day

Athletics Day was Monday 23rd September - the last week of Term 3.  Children were put into groups according to the age they would be on October 1st.  Then, children tried a variety of events such as Discus; Shotput; High Jump; Long Jump; Hurdles; Sprints; Relays.

The Room 10 Relay team raced extremely well against the Teachers, gaining 4th place.  Luckily the Teachers had a bullet like Miss Pereira to bring their team home in first place!

The GSNS Fair - what a fantastic day!

Everyone in Room 10 had a lot of fun making juggling balls for the school Fair.  Lots of children wanted to buy the ones they had made, so we ended up making more!  Then one afternoon we made Sherbet to sell too.  It would be fun to make it again some day, just to eat!

Those children who chose the 'Crafty Fun' Elective spent an hour each Friday making things to sell at the Fair.  On Friday, we transformed Room 10 into the 'Crafts' room.  Senior Team, Models Team, Junior Team as well as the Middle Team, sold all the crafts they had made.

Thank you to all the people who bought the things we had made!

Milk in Schools

We are really enjoying the new 'Milk in Schools' initiative.  Room 10 are very quick to remind their teacher if we haven't had our milk for the day!  It was interesting to hear that the packages get recycled into Thai roofing tiles.  There is a special way that the cartons need to be folded when they are finished and in the photo you will see our expert folders - Ziggy and Scott.

The Big Crunch

Today was The Big Crunch! Look at us biting into our delicious Jazz apples.  Jazz apples were trying to set a new world record for the most people to eat an apple at the same time.  Thank you to the children who brought along a donation for 'KidsCan' - the children's cancer charity.

Character Descriptions

Read these descriptions and imagine what these interesting characters look like:

This alien is called Sparta. He has green, wild, slimy hair. Sparta has silver skin with black spots. He has four arms and two legs. Sparta's dinner is never gobbled up - the cat with three heads always gets it! In his room you would never believe what goes on in there every night - a giant party! Everyone goes even the king of planet Nachos. Anyway enough with the party. Sparta also likes undies. His favourite colour is claramink - it's orange and pink. The only thing he eats is poplate, it's popping chocolate. Sparta isn't greedy though. By Ruairi

This is Ben the cowboy. He wears a light brown checkered top and dark blue jeans. His leather hat is too big for him. A great mustache slithers across his face like an angry snake in a ferocious forest. He is super crazy which he got from his mum. His body is tall and skinny like a fireman's pole. He has a low and deep voice like his overweight dad. His cow-skin boots are taller than a skyscraper! He has had plastic surgery on his face after his latest lethal gunfight. Even though he has been hurt in some, he still likes them. By Bill

Mr Sun loves long holidays in the sun. When he gets a holiday he wears his green shorts, blue sandals and a red t-shirt with white flowers. Strung around his neck there are colourful blossoms. His enormous blue glasses are almost hidden underneath his yellow straw hat that is pulled over his smooth, black hair. Mr Sun always packs his favourite bright red suitcase to the brim - food, clothes, everything! His voice is so high pitched it could shatter glass. When he smiles he has deep dimples in his cheeks. He is a very nice and happy man but is most happy when he is on holiday! By Amalya

Memories of Swimming

How to Dive
Stand on the edge of the pool with your arms out straight, one arm on top of the other. Look at the water, your arms are touching your ears.  Bend your legs. Push out with your legs.

By Caitlin, Madi Sinead, Greta, Ashley

Splish, Splash, Swimming

Splish splash the legs keep kicking.
Splish splash divers dive down.
Splish splash the arms roll.
Splish splash the waves go up.
Splish splash noises loud.
Splish splash!

By Ava, Ruairi, Paige, Ziggy

Swimming Rap
I love swimming you do too.
It’s the best thing you ever do
Once I did not know what to do.
A belly flop I had to do.

By Amani, Connor, Jaafar, Henri, Ashwin

Swimming Information

What an amazing trip to the Art Gallery we had last week. John started by taking us on an interesting tour around the paintings and pointing out interesting facts. Up in the classroom the students were creative and worked really hard to produce some wonderful portraits. Thank you to all the amazing helpers who came with us - you made the trip so enjoyable! Who Am I?

It's a mystery!  Who are all these people?  All of the children in Room 10 completed a WHO AM I? giving clues, but not saying their names.  Come in and read through the cards to see if you can find your child (don't turn them over until you are sure!) Or just read and find out all about the wonderful children in Room 10.

Our Classroom Treaty

We designed a classroom treaty to keep everyone safe and happy.  We thought up some positive and negative consequences.  We each designed ourselves to go on the wall around our treaty to show that we are all in agreement.

Welcome to 2013

Kia ora!  Welcome to the Room 10 classroom blog.  We look forward to sharing photos, examples of our work, and telling you what has been happening in our classroom.  Thanks for visiting!
